Valérianes-Garden

Valérianes-Garden is less than 10 minutes from Vallonchêne®. This garden can compete, without hesitation, with the greatest English gardens. This marvelous place is located in Bosc Roger sur Buchy between Rouen and Forges les Teaux. It is so called by its creators in honor of their daughters: Valérie and Anne.

Marylin and Michel TISSAIT started this garden about thirty years ago, with a first part located around their house.

It now has an excellent structure with exceptional trees. The beds at their feet are lined with various perennials and shrubs, giving them a pleasant play of colors.
Very interesting elements in this first part of Valérianes-Garden are the small pool, the secret garden and the large, nicely arranged “mixed border”.

The second part of the Valérianes-Garden, which was laid out around ten years ago, represents a real challenge: both in terms of the garden itself and in terms of heritage preservation.

Indeed, Mrs. TISSAIT assisted by her husband, carried out themselves the high-quality restoration of old farm buildings. As soon as you enter, you feel that you have to expect something wonderful. As the photo on this page shows, real landscaping work has been done.

It is a fantastic walk during which you will discover the rarest species (perennials, shrubs, and trees). The creators have played with excellence with bark, foliage and shapes, to the point that there would not even have been a need for flowers to decorate it. And yet, they are not lacking. It’s a ballad weaving through a vegetal universe that constantly surprises you with incredible views and transparencies.

You are made to “walk on water” thanks to stones placed in the big pond. The play of colors with bright red astilbes and grasses from South Africa is spectacular! Do not forget to admire the bark of the trees beginning to mature.

Even a Japanese corner has been skillfully integrated into the ballad, with Japanese maples and bamboo. Having been surprised by the extreme cleanliness of the garden as soon as I arrived (the parking lot on the lawn worthy of a golf green), I would like to specify that the complete maintenance of the garden is provided by Ms. and Mr. Tissait on their own. This Pharaonic work carried out during all these years testifies their immense passion for gardening and deserves all our respect.
