The Plant<\/h2>\n

BRASSAIOPSIS hispida<\/strong>, like BRASSAIOPSIS mitis<\/a><\/strong> or BRASSAIOPSIS hainla<\/a><\/strong>, are undoubtedly among THE collector’s plants of recent years. They belong to the Araliaceae family.
\nThe foliage of BRASSAIOPSIS hispida is evergreen<\/strong>, quite thick<\/strong>, slightly downy<\/strong>, and pale green. Each leaf has 9 to 11 large lobes and reaches a diameter of around forty centimeters. The petioles reach a length of 20 to 40 cm.
\nThe new spring growth is particularly remarkable and distinctly different from the mature leaf. Indeed, it has a rather pronounced bronze color<\/strong> (see photo).
\nB. hispida grows in an elongated, even erect manner<\/strong>. In its natural habitat, it can reach 5 meters.

How to plant and care for BRASSAIOPSIS hispida?<\/h2>\n

The planting<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Like all Araliaceae, B. hispida likes shady locations<\/strong>. Avoid direct sunlight<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Choose a location sheltered from the wind<\/strong> and moderately humid<\/strong>, but sufficiently drained in winter to avoid rot.<\/li>\n
  3. The soil should be light or normal<\/strong> with an acidic, neutral or calcareous pH<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Protect the plant with mulch at the base and a winter cover just before the first frost. Remove this protection as soon as the late frosts end.<\/li>\n
