The Plant<\/h2>\n

ACER cappadocicum ‘Aureum’<\/strong> is one of the dazzling small trees in many respects. It is commonly called yellow Cappadocian maple<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

In spring, it develops bronze-red shoots<\/strong> that turn into magnificent yellow leaves with blood-red tips<\/strong>. Moreover, its bark is green with a whitish pattern<\/strong> somewhat similar to that of snakebark maples. <\/p>\n

Then, in summer, its foliage shifts to a very light green. Later, in autumn, its leaves take on a rather unique yellow-orange hue<\/strong> that seems to emit light during those grey days (see photo). <\/p>\n

Since it is a very slow-growing tree<\/strong>, it remains small in size<\/strong>. As such, it is particularly well-suited to small and medium-sized gardens. Moreover, it is ideal at woodland edges, in clearings, or as a solitary tree. <\/p>\n

How to plant and care for ACER cappadocicum ‘Aureum’?<\/h2>\n

Planting<\/h3>\n

The yellow Cappadocian maple is a relatively easy plant to grow<\/strong>. Nevertheless, follow the recommendations below to get the most out of it: <\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Find it a spot in full sun or partial shade<\/strong> in a border, at the edge of a woodland, or as a solitary plant<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Prefer a planting site that is fresh to moist, medium or dry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. The soil can be light, medium, or heavy<\/strong> with an acidic, neutral, or alkaline pH<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

    Care<\/h3>\n

    During the first two years after planting, maintain regular watering, especially during dry periods, to ensure successful establishment. Also read our tips on how to water effectively and save water here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n

    As already mentioned, it is an easy maple to grow. It tolerates pruning well if needed, but given its small size, this will probably not be necessary. In any case, carry it out in March before the new shoots appear. <\/p>\n

    History and Origin<\/h2>\n

    ACER cappadocicum ‘Aureum’ is a horticultural selection introduced in 1914 by H. A. Hesse (renowned nurseryman) in Weener, Germany, derived from a species native to the Caucasus and Asia Minor (notably Turkey and Iran).<\/p>\n

    The name CAPPADOCICUM refers to Cappadocia, a historical region located in central Anatolia (modern-day Turkey). It is renowned for its spectacular landscapes and rich ancient cultural heritage. <\/p>\n

    Finally, the adaptability of this species and its ornamental value have made it a preferred choice in European horticulture, especially in temperate climates.<\/p>\n
