Description

HYDRANGEA paniculata ‘Hercules’ (R) is one of the panicle hydrangeas that you truly must have.
Indeed, it develops large and numerous flowers. They begin in cream color to become white and finish pink, later in the season. These panicles can measure up to 30 cm and last for several months! In addition, the stems are strong and do not bow under the weight of the flowers, unlike many other HYDRANGEA paniculata. The plant reaches a height of 1.5 m to 2 m.

How to plant HYDRANGEA paniculata ‘Hercules’ (R)

Plant this panicle hydrangea in full sun or partial shade. It likes moist or moderately moist soil, but can also tolerate dry soil. The soil can be light, normal, or heavy and of acidic, neutral, or calcareous pH.

HYDRANGEA paniculata are perfect for planting in hedges, containers, or beds.

Tip: Prune HDYRANGEA panciluata ‘Hercules’ (R) back to 2/3 of its height each year in March or April. The more you reduce it then, the larger the flowers will be the following season.

History and origin

HYDRANGEA paniculata is endemic to Japan and China and has been introduced to the United States. It grows there in forests rich in varieties, meadows and on the banks of rivers at heights ranging from 300 to 3,100 meters.

Panicle hydrangeas are warmth-loving and cold-hardy.

The species was first described in 1829 by Philipp Franz von Siebold.

Nowadays, gardeners appreciate it and use it for its ornamental side.
